UK Policy and Campaigns
The UK will become a full Erasmus Plus programme country (“third country associated to the programme”) in 2027. Our initial membership is for one year, because this is the final year of the current 7-year programme cycle. The new programme for 2028-34 is currently under development.
The UK and Erasmus+
It has been confirmed that the Turing scheme (launched in 2021) will close when the UK joins Erasmus Plus. The scheme continues to operate for the 2026-27 academic year. Turing was praised and criticised in equal measure, but was never the equivalent of Erasmus Plus as it was limited to schools, colleges and universities, was not reciprocal, and funded only student mobility.
The Taith programme, the Welsh government’s replacement for Erasmus Plus, has been widely hailed as a success. Schools, universities and youth groups have benefited, with over 12,000 individual mobilities to and from almost 100 countries. The scheme is now expected to end in 2028 when the transition to Erasmus Plus is complete. The final grant application round was in March 2026.
Turing and Taith
Now that the National Campaign has fulfilled its primary objective, it has moved into phase 2 which is all about promoting the programme across the UK in order to ensure Erasmus Plus is a sustainable success. InterCom is a leading contributor to this effort.
